What does a Casting Agency Do? show answer »

The purpose of a casting agency is bring together talent and production companies. To facilitate this, casting agencies develop a database containing files of individuals with a very wide range of talents, physical characteristics, features, and skills.

When a director or producer is interested in casting parts for an upcoming production, they can easily browse the files already collected by the casting agency instead of initiating their own time consuming recruitment efforts.

Do I still need a VAR-WUO? And what is a model contract? show answer »

The government of the Netherlands, in its great wisdom, has created a new level of bureaucracy for all of us to deal with.  It is called the ’model contract’.  Basically, it is a contract that has been accepted by the tax office that states you are working as a freelancer.  If it sounds simple, remember, the Netherlands has had 800 years to perfect their bureaucracy.  The requirements are very strict.

All organizations have until January 2018 to get their administrations in order.  We have an aplicable Model Overeenkomst(contract) and will impliment it in our system soon. It will be a two step process.  First you will answer some questions, online, then the right contract for you will be sent.  Since the criteria for beiing a freelancer are strict it might be necessary for you to be paid via a payroll service.

What is a payroll service? show answer »

A payroll service is a company that handles your payment for a job.  They will withhold all of the taxes and social premiums that the Dutch tax office requires and pay you the ’net’ amount.

At the end of the year you will get what is called a ’jaaropgaaf’.  This outlines total amount that has been withheld and paid in taxes and social premiums.  You give this document to your accountant and they fill in the papers.

Often you will get money back from the tax office.

Am I a freelancer or do I need a payroll service? show answer »

Now that’s a good question!

In order to be paid as a freelancer you will have to fulfill all of the requirements set by the Dutch Tax Office which include:

a.    You are in possession of a VAT number.
b.    You are registered at the Chamber of Commerce.
c.    You have a business bank account.
d.    You have liability insurance.
e.    You work for other clients.
f.    You invest in self-promotion (looking for clients, a website. house style...etc) at your own risk.
g.    You have enough financial reserves to bridge slow periods.
h.    You are responsible for your company’s debts.
i.    You accept the risk is a company you’ve work with doesn’t pay.
j.    You take responsibility for the quality of your work.
k.    If you get sick no company you work with pays your sick leave.
l.    You work regularly and work for more than one company.
m.    Your company will invoice clients at least Euro 5000 this year.
n.    You decide how you will work.  (When directed by a director you still have creative imput.)
o.    You can decide to accept the rate offered for a job or not.
p.    You send an invoice directly to INCasting.

If you do not fulfill these requirements, then your payment will have to be processed through a payroll company such as www.raakvlak.nl or www.tentoo.nl.  Please ensure you are registered with the payroll service of your choice. After the job is done you will need to let them know the fee for the performance and the transportation allowance-usually by sending them a copy of the contract. Then they will invoice INC. If you have any questions, please call them because they will be able to answer your questions directly. The fees quoted above are the total fees to be paid by International Native Casting, and include any payroll service costs but do not include BTW.
